• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

What's up people...

I am in the market for a new mac to run Final Cut Pro...
At the end of the day I want something that will give me good render times and also be able to run simultaneous apps like photo shop and logic.

I was looking at a powermac pro with Two 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon.

For 1500.00 more I could up to a Two 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon.

Or I was just told that I don't need all that power and that I should just get an imac or laptop.

There is obviously a large range in price between all of these...
For me, performance always trumps cost. But I don't want to spend a whole bunch of money if I don't need to.

Any suggestions? Cost/benefit analysis?

The mac Pro w/ two 2.26 GHz Quad-Core's should be fine. I don't think there would be a big difference between the two. If you want smoother performance, just add a couple extra gigs of RAM and you should be all set
