Hi Guys,

Today I decided to install Windows on an Apple Mac OS X v10.4.11 via BootCamp. Crawled on Apple.com to find that they have stopped the beta support (and download) for OS X Tiger (Apple PowerPC G5)

I am looking for an alternate link to download BootCamp (beta) so that I can install Windows on my Mac. If the software does not run anymore, then is there any way to install Windows on a Mac without upgrading to a Leopard? Any help in achieving this will be highly appreciated

cheers!

In short, no.

Boot Camp is not a feature of 10.4. It was released as a public beta toward the end of 10.4's life cycle. The full version of Boot Camp was released as a feature of 10.5 and later and the betas expired and are no longer usable.

Your options are to either upgrade to Snow Leopard (10.6, $29) or to try to manually install Windows by repartitioning your drive manually (which would mean formatting your drive and repartitioning, unless you buy a non-destructive partitioning utility like iPartition) and then using a third party boot loader like rEFIt. Even then, you're going to need drivers, which might be hard to come by.

You could probably save yourself a whole lot of time and heartache by either upgrading to Snow Leopard, which has a number of benefits over 10.4, or running Windows in Parallels/VMWare Fusion. At the end of the day, support for 10.4 is now drawing to a close and you're best off upgrading just to keep up to date.

He may have to settle for Leopard (had G5 in post) There is no support for PowerPC G5 in Snow Leopard.

But if that were the case, he wouldn't be running Boot Camp anyway. A G5 machine isn't going to run Windows without x86 emulation.

D'oh! I totally missed where he said that (quite clearly, I might add).

OP: You can't use Boot Camp on your machine if it is truly a PowerMac G5. Your only recourse for running Windows would be in emulation (read: slow). Since Microsoft killed off Virtual PC for Mac, the only other option I know of is iEmulator. But don't be surprised if it runs like molasses in Antartica.

Thank you so much for your quick replies. My main concern is to run Corradi Project [http://www.corradiproject.info/] at work and I need Windows for that matter.

If G5 cannot support Leopard / BootCamp, then I'm so screwed. I have an Apple Mac Pro as well. Can I try my luck with that huge machine?

Mac Pro will definitely handle it. Bootcamp requires an Intel processor - as does Snow Leopard 10.6

Thanks mate, but its been lying there since 2 years. So am I supposed to upgrade it to Snow Leopard 10.6? (assuming it has some old Mac version).

Moreover, does the old Mac Pros come on Intel chipset? Can I skip the purchase of Leopard, instead partition the HD using another tool (Partition Magic) and install Windows?

Absolutely - Mac Pro is Intel only. You may have Leopard 10.5 already installed, which comes with Bootcamp.
