Logic Express 9 question

Hey,

Sorry if this is the wrong place to start this thread.....
I just got my new mac with LE 9.
Plugged in my guitar and when i try and use distortion effects i get this nasty feedback noise...
Any advice to stop this noise would be appreciated!!!!

How are you plugged in?
If you're going through a mic, shut off your computer's speakers.
