Problem Connecting PS3 with Mac (optical cable)

i just bought an adapter to connect my ps3 to my mac via an optical cable. so ps3 out, to mac in. but it just gives me really loud static. and this happens only when i start the game. so in the main menu i can hear all the clicks. what could be the problem?

i am on a macbook with a 40gb ps3

Could be a sample rate problem. What are you using to import the audio to the Mac?
