Here down under we had a bit of a problem when the FEARED Y2K bug that was meant to turn the world upside down in 2000 finally hit us this year.

For people that dont carry cash and those businesses that rely on people and there eftpos got chucked into turmoil mainly in Queensland Aust ...
Sydney Morning Herald

Anyone anywhere over this big planet have a similar problem, or are we down under the unlucky ones ??
It didnt affect me personally but find it funny that it happened this year and not 10 yrs ago ...

Haven't heard anything up here but that's quite odd. Then again, I haven't really bought anything the last couple of days.

Their what? I figured out the eft part, but the article didn't explain the rest of it. Ok, I read through it very quickly. Maybe I missed it.

Here, our ATMs are called TYME Machines. I won't spoil the fun just yet.

Yes that article is about the Bank of Queensland. The same bank that had 3 million of it's funds stolen over a 3 year period. I know I'm a Queenslander and it was big news here. Lets just say I'm glad I do not bank with them.

And yeah my VCR actually had the Y2K bug in 2000. Now it's date is all screwed up and I have to use a totally wrong date in like 2045 to get it to tape correctly. Well it worked that way just time till last week when it died. for good.

Yeah I own a DVD player but not a DVD recorder so my VCR was used for recording things I wanted to see but was at work at the time. I think it's time to invest in a DVD recorder now.

Ehh... even DVD recorders aren't much use anymore with so much content available online. Unless of course, you just want to save shows for a certain reason and have them available on your tv or computer or a DVD. *shrug*
All depends on personal preference. :)

A lot of hosts and email providers who use spam assassin in their mix of spam defences experianced issues where SA was giving very high spam scores meaning many people got no mail and a lot of mail being lost.

Worryingly they fixed it by putting the problem back 10 years. So if they havent properly fixed it by 2020 it will happen again.

eftpos?

I still have a VCR connected to my TV, but use the satellite DVR 99% of the time. What's so amazing? Having had a VCR for much longer than DVRs even existed, I have quite a library of tapes. And, it's a combo unit, so I can play DVDs through it as well. The DVR can't do that.

toM our EFTPOS is the system where you go into a store with no cash in wallet and they say SWIPE your card.
It goes through a card reader after they put in the amount, you chuck your PIN number in and wammo you account gets debited...

Yea its not a "hole in the wall/ATM/TYME" machine, it just be the little thingy ma doozie beside the register...

What do you call those ??

I have no idea what the stores here call those things. I would ask some clerks, but I bet I'd get a different answer from every one. My question really was not "What is it?" but what do those letters stand for?. (creative punctuation license #12010) I get the first three. Then I thought I'd start a guessing game about TYME, but, no takers.
