Panther to go Gold Master

Apple Declared Panther Gold Master on Tuesday
October 2, 2003 - 12.05 EDT Multiple sources in the past 48 hours have confirmed that Mac OS X 10.3 Panther has reached Gold Master status. Build 7B85 was 'informally' declared Gold Master sometime on Tuesday of this week. In this case, Gold Master is a term referring to the CD containing the finalized code that will be sent to the CD manufacturer to be reproduced for retail sale.


My Comments: 7B80 seems to be working great, so im expecting to see it shipping by the end of october

As interested as I am in Panther, I think I'm still going to wait a few months at the very least before deciding to upgrade. As thorough as Apple's beta testing must have been, it still can't compare to the massive amount of "real world testing" it Panther will receive once it's released to the masses.

ya, the same thing happened with jag. i think 10.2.2 was the most stable version early on, which came out a few months after jag

Panther goes 'Gold Master'
October 3, 2003 - 05:57 EDT Apple's latest revision to the Mac OS, Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) has hit "Gold Master" status, according to The Register. This means that the software has exited the beta stage and is now ready for mass production. In light of this, the Web site reports that it expects Panther to go on sale to consumers later this month. Apple CEO Steve Jobs did not give a confirmed ship date for the new OS at his recent keynote address at Apple Expo Paris, but simply reaffirmed that it would ship before the end of this year.

My Comments: Ill probably wait awhile also, but that's just because I have to justify the cost before I get it.. and it probably wont take me that long to justify the cost

I will be getting mine when it comes out, Installing it may be another question.
