Network games - Mac/PC

Cheers folks!

I bought my first Mac yesterday *.*, it's a macbook white... I'm loving it so much, but i've found my first problem: Games...
Me and some friends have played windows games for years and years, the games we used to play are: Rise of Nations, Age of Empires, Age of Mythology... And all these games have a mac version, and what I wanna know is if it's possible to play it, me on my mac and they on their pcs?

no problem, you just need to be on the same network for games not supported on Mac, use dual boot windows ... boot camp

I talked with a friend that have told me it doesn't work because the mac and the pc versions are different, is it correct or not?
