When closing an application and you are prompted to save or cancel, is there a way to change the highlighted selection with the keyboard? Cursor keys, tab don't seem to do anything. I hate to have to grab the mouse to select my option.

What you're looking for can be found in the keyboard settings for OS X. Go to System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > "Full Keyboard Access" > "All Controls".

Return activates the default (blue) option.
Command-. (period, a.k.a full stop) is Cancel

Typically, other options are activated by Command + First letter.
Command-D is Don't save.

(Some especially helpful software, like TextWrangler, Microsoft Office, and AppleWorks, will show the shortcut keys on the buttons when you hold down the Command key.)

There is also an option in the Keyboard pane of System Preferences to allow full keyboard access by tabbing and pressing the spacebar.
