Problems with Gimp and InkScape

I downloaded Gimp, and it runs. But it opens with X11, I don't know what that is. But when I open Gimp X11 comes up and there are windows that are huge that I can't change the size of. Know of any other free programs to download?

I couldn't download InkScape because they don't have it for 10.6, is that the same problem with Gimp?

to use gimp you're stuck with x11, it's what provides the graphical interface, in other words gimp doesn't use the Mac OS native look and feel as you have noted

however it still is the best free solution out there
