path of external hard drive changes

I have an external usb udd that I rename it "HDD" (not much fantasy sorry)

When I connect it to my MBP files are this path: /Volumes/HDD/

When I recconnect it a second time files path could be different like: /Volumes/HDD 1/

Why ?



This cause me some problem.

How to fix it ???

If I understand your post....

Sounds like the hard drive is not being properly ejected. If the system thinks the drive is still connected, it's going to assign a different identifier to the drive when it's mounted again since it will think it's an additional drive.

Make sure the drive is being properly ejected each time. Even if it doesn't show up on your desktop, you can check to see if it's still mounted by opening Disk Utilities.
