I was on my semi-monthly walk around the neighborhood last night, when I saw an Apple I, complete with the engraved wood case and keyboard, just sitting on the curb with the other trash. So I stop and stair for a moment, then slowly keep going, repeatedly reminding myself of what hapened the last time I brought home "trash", not to mention I would have to carry it like 4 blocks back home. But now I'm beginning to regret my decision. Should I have taken it?

You might have gotten a good price on ebay, if it was in good shape.

You have to do some research, but it would be a collectible.

If you're serious, and correct in your identification? That is, a real Apple I?

Thousands of dollars.

Enough to buy a midsized car, at least.

I'm not kidding.

I'm too preoccupied trying to figure out why someone would throw it out to be upset about my not having it, to display, use, or sell.

This may make me sound "uncool" (not that I'm particularly concerned about that), but it actually makes me a bit upset that someone would throw something like that out, and also makes me really wish that I had been the one to see it, because I wouldn't have hesitated for even a split-second to rescue it.

I would have snatched that up right away. I probably would have kept it though. Sure if it was in good condition I could have cleaned up on eBay or something, but I would rather have it for myself.

Let quote that old cliché:

One man's trash, is anothers man's treasure.

Like a couple of other users said, I would have taken that home if I had to carry it 5 miles! I would also probably keep it as I collect old computers and that is the first Apple and one of the first home computers besides the Altaire and a few others. That is what got Jobs and Woz to start Apple.

I bet if it was in good shape it would get a LOT on Ebay as a collectible. Could you go back and get it?
