I have some AVI's that are an average of about 700MB and about 2 hours long. How can I get these AVI's to burn on DVD without getting the error of file being to large? I have just about everything, Popcorn, Toast 6, iDVD, DVD Studio Pro, DivX Dr., ffmpegx, Fourt-Two, Handbrake, Mac the Ripper. Any suggestions? The ideal thing would be to convert AVI files to VOB so I can use Popcorn to burn to DVD. Is this possible? :mac:

There's a program called 'compresser' that comes with DVD Studio Pro (at least it comes with the pro suite, so I assume it comes with DVD SP, unless it comes with final cut pro...). I think it's able to convert your AVIs to the right format, then you can also use it to compress them so they fit on a DVD.

As far as burning goes, DVD SP has that functionality built in so there's no need to use popcorn.

Actually thinking about it a bit more, it makes more sense for Apple to include compressor with FCP rather than DVD SP... So I'm not certain what you can do if you don't have compressor.

I do have compressor but it didn't work. I can't even open up the MP4 file it created. I heard ffmpegx can create video_ts folders with the necessary VOB files. I am trying different conversion with ffmpegx and keeping my finders crossed. I just want to take some AVI files I have that seem to be too big for standard 4.7 DVD-R's and convert to VOB files so I can use Popcorn to burn.

use divx doctor to convert to .mov, then use ffmpegx to convert/author that into video_ts and audio_ts.

Divx Dr works well. I am expermenting with different setting using ffmpegx to convert to video_ts. I used DVD (ffmpeg) with the MPEG2 (ffmpeg) video codec and it did create the video_ts & audio_ts folders...but when I play it back using either Apple DVD or VLC the video becomes very choppy and pixelated, sound too. Any suggestions on settings to use?

mpeg 2 or 4, under tools tab, select author as video_ts and audio_ts folders. then put those in another folder you name after the movie title.
