I recently bought a MacBook Pro along with some other bits and bobs including an iOmega 320GB eGo portable harddrive.

Upon plugging the hard drive in to the laptop i noticed immediately how ridiculously bright the large blue LED on the back of the drive is. I work in a studio and this is not only hideously distracting to myself but also my collegues, even more so when it is read/writing where it flashes like a strobe! It looks like there's a disco going on at my desk!

I'm annoyed as i paid a great deal for this drive and i simply cannot use it due to this, but am concerned Apple won't see this as a legitimate reason to take it back. The reason i bought this one over the Western Digital drives was because the man in the store said they were better but i wish i'd got the other now.

What do people think? I have the box and all that comes with it, but obviously it has been opened and plugged in, though only written on once.

Any suggestions appreciated.

The only way you're going to find out if Apple will exchange it or refund your money is to take it back. Or, you could give them a call, however, it's always best to do a transaction like that in person.

Regards.

Over here (in the UK), we get 14 days to return goods which don't fit our needs so long as they are in as-new condition with all packaging etc.

If you bought it recently give them a call or take it back to the store, sure they'll be happy to swap it or give you a refund.

Put a bit of black electrical tape over the LED. Or take it back.
