Can't Connect MacBook To TV, Please Help

Hello everyone,

I have just purchased a VGA to DVI cable for my Mac which will allow me to play my Mac through my TV, its a Phillips HD TV which is a few years old, the reason I got this cable is because the only other ports I have is Scart, it does not have HDMI or VGA.

I have the apple VGA connecter which plugs into my Mac, from there I plug the VGA end into there and then the DVI into the TV, I have a seperate cable for the sound which I get when I play the Mac through the TV, but no picture, I have tried detecting displays in System Preferences, but I get nothing.

Why would they make this cable when it does'nt work, I payed £12 for it and being 17, I don't have cash to waste on a cable which sits in the draw for the next ten years.

This is really frustrating, an someone please tell me how to fix this or if they have had a simular problem, as soon as possible,

I'm also interested in the answer to this question. A friend of mine used a converter box to rectify the problem-is a converter box really the only solution? I would think you could just plug directly in.

I don't think you can go from VGA to DVI without a box. This link, All About DVI supports that. What you have done is convert the Mac output to analog, while your TV is expecting a digital input.

Your Macbook has some kind of digital output, the connector type depends on the release. Your TV has DVI, of some type. You need to do the appropriate research to get the right cable. It may need one or two cables, all digital.

What MacBook do you have? I don't believe any MB has ever had a VGA port. The first models had mini-DVI.

What is the model of the TV?
