• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Created imovie but stumped on what format to save as to be viewable on PC whilst retaining high quality? HELP! Exported it to iDVD and burned from this to DVD disc, but when viewed on PC or DVD player, quality of images reduced and text significantly reduced. Tried to export from iMovie as a quicktime, no better and then an MPEG which was hideous, even when viewed back on the mac. Any ideas?

If you know the PC has QuickTime, then export as a QuickTime at the native size of the edit with a decent data rate. See my iMovie Export Guide.

You might also try "Movie to AVI" with a DV codec which will likey be a large file, or "Movie to MP4". There are several variants of MP4 to try though and frankly Microsoft doesn't play well with this.

I would go with a QuickTime file using the H.264 video codec and ACC audio codec and simply tell the PC user to load QuickTime.
