for a price. Just saw this posted on Engadget:

Apple reinstates matte display option on 15-inch MacBook Pro, charges $50 for it

Apparently the matte version will revert back to the aluminum bezel, which is probably partly what the $50 is for. I doubt they'll be running a lot of these through the assembly line. I think the $50 price hurdle and the "older looks" will make more people buy the glossy finish anyway.

I think they should just make a black bezel similar to the finish on the keyboard buttons. That would look perfectly acceptible and keep the newer look the glossy versions have.

Actually I like the Alu bezel they chose. It's alright I guess. But for $50 I'd pay for the matte option again. Mind you Apple are refering this $50 option as anti-glare and not matte. Ao does mean the other option is glare and not gloss :).

Anyways I think their most popular notebook and imac models need to have this matte option also. For $50 I'd pay for it. heck for $150 I'd pay for it. I have the last matt screened imac. And I chose it over the waiting for a newer gloss screen one. It's one big reason why I have not upgraded macs yet. So I think this is a good idea from Apple. And I hope it catches on so they widen it to more of their products.

Might have upgraded my MBP earlier this year if there had been a matte option on the new batch of machines. This time, you're too late Apple. Just spent your chance at my cash on a HTPC and media server. Maybe next year.

I think you'll find this to be true in many other situations as well.

But yes, this is generally how things go when Apple updates features in their line of computers. There's just no pleasing some people.

I bought the 17" for the matte and have no complaints. That being said - I would have bought the 15" if it was an option at the time. I probably won't be going back now though. Too spoiled.

I would definitely give it a look next time I'm up for an upgrade. Though, maybe a 13" with the matte would be more attractive for my wallet!

I think companies do this sort of thing, just to spice things up. Kind of reminds me of the Chinpokeman episode of South Park. Anything new, different, old, discontinued, shiny, matte or whatever, instantly becomes more desirable.

I wasn't a fan of the black bezel and black keyboard, but they definitely look better together than one without the other.

First Matte was main stream and now glossy is main steam. Now that Matte finish is the new thing they get to charge you extra for it.

That's marketing for ya. <_<"

I kind of like the black bezel. I'm going to go to the Mac store soon and see how the aluminum bezel and the matte screen look like.

I am glad they've listened and given us this option back, even if we do have to pay for it. I swore to myself I wasn't going to buy a Mac notebook until they brought the Matte option back, and now they have! =D

I'll have to start saving cash for a new machine.

Matte Macbook Pro

I have seen the matte macbook pro in store, IMO didnt like the silver surround when compared to the black. Would have preferred black with matte. To late for me too however as i purchased about 3 weeks ago.

I have the matte 17 inch MB pro and I like it. The silver don't bother me any. If it did the matte makes up for it without having to look at the glare on everything

I like the silver because I am OCD and I hate the fingerprints on the black!

Matte 15" screen

I just bought the glossy 15" PowerBook Pro and am thinking of exchanging it for the matte screen. I've heard a lot of people say they do not like the glossy screen, but for those of you who have the matte screen on the newest model, are you happy with it? I'm just a little nervous because it seemed like a last minute option for the 15" and I want to make sure it's great quality.
