• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

How do I import video from a Sony DCR-DVD105 Handycam to my 2007 Macbook? Do I have a firewire connection or don't I? Where is it? ... any info will help.
Thanks.

On a 2007 Macbook, the Firewire port should be on the left side of the machine. I believe you'll need one of these.

According to the specs, that camera does not have a Firewire (i.Link) port, or a USB port.

You have two options...

Place the disc into an EXTERNAL DVD drive connected to your Mac. The reason is that the Macbook will choke on a non standard size disc.

Use a box via USB or Firewire that converts the analog audio and S-Video to digital into your computer. This has been discussed here many many many many times. I use my Elgato Hybrid TV tuner for that purpose.

Thanks youse guys. Today I tried to...

use this disk utility "loophole" (some German guy...) I got from googling my problem, so far with no good results. I will try to do the external dvd idea, but have read that I might be SOL from somebody else who had the same question on another site awhile back. However the only difference between hooking the external dvd player to my 'puter vs. my dvr is to make some clever slickly edited video out of my schlocky home movie. Truth is my family ain't all that picky and it might not be worth the trouble. Again thanks for the advice.
