I've recently (like 2 weeks ago) got my first mac, and just love it. It erm...works. It just works. So I was wandering what everyone thinks the best feature of Mac's, hardware or software is?

I was very impressed just now when I plugged my mac into a printer I have never used. No driver disks, or even installation, it just worked. straight away. Listening Bill? Leopards like printers. Windows don't.

I also love the multi touch trackpad. I've had a Dell laptop before (I know, I cried too), and this just doesn't compare. Not even like the same category of device.

Thought it'd be cool to see your thoughts about this.

There are too many great features of the Operating System and even the hardware designs of the machines. It's too hard to pick one.

Some of my favorites are the startup/shutdown time and effectiveness of the thing sleeping and firing back up. I don't even shut mine down for months at a time. People used to tell me they did that and I never believed them until I switched. Oh that and everything else about them! LOL.

If I absolutely had to choose between software and hardware I'd say software. Specifically OSX. Best OS I've ever came across.

But really, what I really like about the Macs is that the software and hardware are literally made for each other.

There are so many things to like, especially little things. For example the MagSafe connector: if it wasn't for that my MacBook would've been crushed to the ground many times with my little brother running around and through the house. Another thing is the Apple store/resellers: I just recently had a major problem with Leopard and brought it to a store and they were very helpful.
I also especially like that I completely forgot viruses existed :p - The other day I was helping out my bro with his XP machine since it had some problems (turns out he had a few trojans). Doing a virus scan felt so... new; different; unheard of to me, lol.

I could go on forever.

So I will.
I especially love Time Machine! Made it super easy to upgrade my HD and fix the Leopard problem that I just had now.
I love the software that comes with the Mac. Thanks to iMovie I edited a wonderful movie that my friends and I created for my school's film festival. I got a lot of positive comments on my editing job.
I also think it's really great that they are just beautiful machines. I especially adore the simplicity.
Another little one: the keyboard. I think Apple has made some excellent keyboards in the past few years. I like how spaced out they are, and the feel of the keys. Wish I had a backlight though, oh well lol.

I'm just gonna stop there as I am getting kinda tired and need sleep lol.

My personal favorite is no spyware/virus checks every week that bogs down the system.

^I agree with that.

But I'd also happily say that the best feature is the fact that Mac OS X doesn't interact with you as much as Windows. It boots, it's their, you can use it, and get on with your business. No waiting or stupid alert boxes.

OSX without a doubt.

I do like the Aluminum keyboard with the Number Keypad a lot also.

But did I say OSX? Why yes I did! :D Grin

What did surprise me when I was looking for a Mac but also looking at the equivalent PC's, no laptop running Windows came close the the aesthetics or functional design of the mac. The keyboard, power adapter, size and simplicity of the design are all features of the mac that could have been replicated.

Also, I get the point. Listing one feature is not going to cut it. They're just too **** good!

I hate the multi touch track pad. Other photographers have complained as well. In photo shop, when you're just messing around and not using a mouse, it almost always rotates the photo and the undo feature doesn't undo the track pad rotate. Pain in the rear.

My MBP's best feature is that it looks pretty sitting in the corner of the room.

If I had to pick one feature of my Mac that I like the best, I would have to say the screen/graphics quality. My Macs have been the only computer I could actually read an entire book off of. In college I never printed out PDFs, I read them on the mac because the quality of the screen of was so amazing I never got a headache from looking at it. When someone prefers to look at a screen, I think that means something and it is the one feature that always lures me to the mac.
