• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

What are the other consumer video editing softwares available on Mac?
Kind of alternatives to iMovie. Has anyone explored some other options?

Thanks,

Your Mac's Specs
Late 2013 rMBP, i7, 750m gpu, OSX versions 10.9.3, 10.10
Final Cut Express is an option - basically it's a trimmed down, yet still very powerful version of FCP. Cost is $199

Media Edit - 3rd party video editor, not sure on quality. $59.95 Download MediaEdit for Mac - Add stunning transitions/effects to your movies. MacUpdate Mac Video Software Downloads

ZS4 Video Editor - written for ppc, not sure if it will work under rosetta or not, free, not updated in several years. Download ZS4 Video Editor for Mac - Video editing and compositing software. MacUpdate Mac Video Software Downloads

SimpleMovieX - limited to editing quicktime formats. $35 Download SimpleMovieX for Mac - Edit QuickTime format videos. MacUpdate Mac Video Software Downloads

And many others can be found here:

Mac OS X Multimedia & Design Software Updates and Downloads - MacUpdate

My personal preference, if you can afford it, is for FCE. It's a great tool, very powerful, a traditional NLE style editor with a timeline, multiple audio / video tracks, etc.

Also, in the free (read 'hard to use') department there's 2 alternatives:

Jahshaka - website - download page

I've downloaded this before. Haven't ever gotten anywhere with it. You may be way more resourceful than I though.

Blender - website - download page

This is actually an open source 3D package that happens to have a decent little NLE hidden away within it. I use this program all the time, but I must warn you, the interface is very, unique.
If you try it out for editing I'll save you a half our. When you load it for the first time, look along the top for a drop down menu that says "SR:2-Model" click it and select "4-Sequence" from the list. That is all I can tell you for now. You're gonna hate me, but I'll give you further info if you PM me.

Hi,

Do FCE and Blender work ok on the 13" MBP?
