I'm planning on buying my first Imac in the next couple of weeks but have been wondering if there are any websites where i can get one that has been marked down due to a nick on the body or something. Or a mark on the screen.

if your in the US i recommend craigslist and if it is still under Apple care then you have no worries after you see it works when you go and pick it up. you will get the best deal on there if you are patient and look all the time.

you can look at the refurbished iMacs on Apples site

you can try MacMall.com, Your #1 Apple superstore for MacBook, iPod, iMac

you can look at the buy/sell area on this site

Not withstanding the previous posts.... But in my opinion, stay away from Craig's list or eBay unless you can make personal contact with the seller. Too many hazards. I know some folks who swear by eBay and Craig's list, and yes, you can get a good deal there - but buying something like an iMac is risky.

Fletch's suggestion about buying a refurbished unit direct from Apple is a good one and that's what I would do. You receive a full warranty and can even extend it with Apple care.

Regards.

I could part with my 20" iMac. No scratches or dings though! LOL

PM me if you are interested in details.

can you buy stuff on craigslist without making personal contact? i thought that was the point? that is why i like it so much because you get a chance to see what you are buying and use it or whatever before you purchase.

i guess you could make an arrangement for digital payment and have something mailed but you would have to be insane to do that with no rating system on the seller.

anyway good luck

I'm looking for a G5 Imac actually. Preferably one with an Intel processor to upgrade to snow Leopard when it comes out. My friend got one on Ebay last summer for $430 because of a nick on the screen. It's a 20 inch with i sight, 300 some hard drive, 2.0ghz, 1.5gb of ram. They do have a couple on Mac Mall but i don't think they've updated them because they're all still $1100.

Apple iMac - 17" - Â*1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo - LEOPARD - eBay (item 190324623434 end time Aug-06-09 13:19:06 PDT)

This is what I'm looking for. I could upgrade the Memory to at least 1 or 2gb and the HD to at least 250gb right? I'm a first time Mac buyer and i don't want to make a huge investment in the newer Imacs. Just to start out i think this would be great.

The only thing I dont like is that the OS disks are not included. What if you need them later on?

When I was looking at getting an iMac with intel, I was surpised how little money there was between the 17" and 20".
