Hi folks,

I've read through previous posts here on how to burn an .avi with an .srt subtitle file to a DVD. The method commonly suggested seems to be the 'memorably' named program 'ffmpegX'.

When I go to their site there's a pretty bewildering slab of text with equally off-puttingly named 'binaries' which have to be downloaded first, then the actual program, then of course you have to figure out how to use the thing...

All very complicated and, probably without meaning to be, totally user-unfriendly to a 45 yr old computer dummy like me.

Surely there's got to be an easier way to burn a DVD with subs? One previous post suggested those with Perian can simply put the .avi and .srt into a folder, then simply drag and drop the folder into their DVD burning software. I have Perian and tried doing this with iDVD but it won't accept a folder.

Does anyone have a simple method of burning a DVD from an .avi to include the subtitles?

Many thanks,
Michael.

hi michael,

of course DVD Studio Pro is the way t go but I assume you don't have it at hand.
I have not a good idea about programs that would allow you to add a ST file to an existing avi, they might be out there but to me as a video editor that sounds complicated.

What I would do if i had the avi and an editing program is simply add them in the video editor, you could make one text template and then copy it, putting in new text each time.

there is a nice program that does subtitles for films, you can download it from

Belle Nuit Subtitler

there is a free demo version but the full version is not free.

hope that helps,

Thanks Lorenzz.

I'll have a look at that and see if it is any ways easier than the beautifully-named 'ffmpegX".
