First let me say I have read all the post I could find on iPhoto and could not find my answer. I also will point out I realize that Mac and Windows are not the same and that I will have to make changes. I am willing to make changes, but I would like iPhoto to take into consideration all the WORK I have put into organizing things previously and respect that work. I have a system, it is not far apart from what iPhoto does, it is just more detailed and more flexable (ie I have more control).
So here is my issue, on the Windows machine I had the following file structured that I copied over to the Mac.
4 digit Year --> Major category (could be an event like vacation or a group like family photos) --> Sub category (again could be an event like Christmas or a group/individual like a person or pet). This structured could continue on until I was able to organize things to my liking. Also keep in mind an event could span several months, for example in my family Christmas photos can start appearing after Thanksgiving and continue on until the end of January.
So here are some sample structures from my system.
2007 | Family Photos | Christmas (photos can be from 12/01/07-01/31/08)
2008 | Family Photos | Christmas (photos can be from 12/01/08-01/31/09)
2008 | Family Photos | Willi (any photos not associated with an event of Willi)
2008 | Pets (Photos of pets in the year 2008) | Karli (Photos of Karli)
So what I would like iPhoto to do automatically is create albums or folders that match the folder structure that is on the disk. This would make it easier for me to locate pictures based on my criteria. Is there a way to do this or a tool that will do it for me?
P.S. I have turned off the preference so that iPhoto will not copy the photos.
