Illustrator Gradient Path

I was wondering if anyone on here knows if it is possible to create a gradient on a path.

The context of what I'm talking about is that I have a letter "e" I want to start off light and get darker as I get to the tail of the e. Is this possible?

If you just want a gradient to happen in a particular part of the shape, then try the gradient mesh tool, it takes a bit of getting used to, but with practice it can achieve great results

Yeah you can but it makes the file size huge and it takes a bit of time to learn how to control it. Plus it takes a lot of time and effort to shape it the way you want it.

Basically what I did was convert the text to outlines. Then choose your gradient tool and go at it.
