I believe I have narrowed my selection for an external Firewire Drive down to a LaCie 160 gig Porsche 3 casing model.

My requirements are not heavy-duty video and image editing - just a means of backing up valuable data and storing an image of my HD [just in case].

I have heard of a few instances where these models overheat - probably due to heavy demands.

Has anyone had any overheating issues with this model?

Thank you all who have offered their advice re my 'External Hard Drive' post.

well, they all heat up a little. I have never heard of HD failure because of the heat. I have used my maxtor external as a startup drive for a week now and though its warm/hot-ish, no problems so far.
