That's not OS X, that's a GNOME desktop. Nonetheless, widgets like that might be possible on OS X with Yahoo Widgets.

GNOME

It is a desktop environment for *nix operating systems (of which OS X is one). You might be able to compile it but it would require a lot of effort and I'm not actually sure gdesklets (what I imagine is actually providing the widgets) would work.

Have you looked into Yahoo Widgets?

Gnome must have changed significantly since I used it last :D
Plain GNOME is fairly boring (although I enjoy simplistic) but it cant be skinned to look really nice. When did you last use it?

They are widgets too, assuming it's gdesklets powering those widgets.

Is it just me, or is GNOME usually a Linux environment (yes, I know OS X is a Linux kernel but...)?

OS X does not use a Linux kernel - it uses the Mach kernel. And yes, GNOME is used a lot on Linux distributions but is used on other *nix OSes such as Solaris (it is the default DE for openSolaris). You can compile it through MacPorts (see here) but it is far from worth it IMHO just to get those widgets.

I'm sorry, but isn't that like Ubuntu? I used that messenger for Linux.
