lost my "documents" icon from the dock

OK, so I have now lost my "documents" icon from the dock. It comes up under Finder, but when I red x it - it does not go back to its home in the dock.

How do I get it back in it's nest?

highlight your user name in the Finder side bar - drag the folder and drop in the dock

Must be something in my water. I tried that, and it just disappears In the slpt where it should drop, there is an up.down arrow with a line between the arrows. Also when I drag the icon - I lose it from the sidebar. That I can get back - but nothing seems to want to drop into the dock.

Don't drag it from the side bar - highlight your user name in the side bar and drag the documents folder from the right side
