• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Hey guys. I'm hoping you can help me.

I have approximately $1,000 budgeted to get the basics of what I need to get started in producing videos for myself, and maybe some freelance work. (To give you an idea of what I'll be doing: I have an unpaid gig coming up where I will be shooting and editing at least one staff training video for a nonprofit I used to work for. It will be mostly inside, with a staff and client doing skits to portray how the organizations teaching process works. I was also thinking about putting an ad on craigslist to do a free, low-budget wedding video (for someone who would otherwise not have one at all), and maybe a music video for a band in the area, just to get some experience.)

Here is what I would buy, if left to my own devices. After that, I am budgeting about $200 per month from here on out to go into my "video fund", so any advice on what should be my next priority for purchase over the next few months while I build up more spending money, would also be appreciated!

$150.00 - Final Cut Epress 4: Amazon.com: Final Cut Express 4: Software

$750.00 - Canon VIXIA HV30 HDV High Definition Camcorder: Canon | VIXIA HV30 HDV High Definition Camcorder | 2680B001

$179.00 - Impact Three Flood Light Kit (120VAC): Impact | Three Flood Light Kit (120VAC) | 401495 | B&H Photo

$69.00 - Samson QL5-CL Cardioid Condenser Lavalier Microphone with PM-5 Power Supply - 5' cable: Samson | QL5-CL Cardioid Condenser Lavalier Microphone | SAQL5CL

What are your thoughts?

Thanks so much for reading this far. I would be appreciative of any input or advice!! :)
