I personally think they're of not much use and Apple should utilize that space for something more usable like a multi-card reader. So, I thought I'd get the collective opinion of the forum through actual usage.

If you do use it, I'd like to hear how it's used. Obviously if you use it for a card reader adapter, you would be just as well off with a multi-card reader.

I votes yes as I regularly use it with a Griffin ExpressCard/34 5 in 1 Reader. The use if for photo transfers from a Sony Memory Stick Pro card used by my camera. I don't however feels it is a good use of space considering that an actual card reader would have a smaller footprint (at least externally). I keep saying I'll uses the slot for cellular 3G internet card, but that never seems to materialize for me.

I use mine for my wireless N card since it is not built in my MBP.

Never used it in the three years that I have had my MBP. Although, one time I thought about buying a TV Tuner card for it so I could record stuff on TV to my hard drive, but didn't want to spend the money and I didn't think I would use it all that much.

I used it back in the day when I had my G4 TiBook to run wireless using an Aria Extreme wifi card.

Haven't used one since.

I don't even know what an ExpressCard slot is.

It is a slot on the side of the MacBook Pro which a lot of users use for external broadband cards, and card readers for cameras. Go ahead and google it for more information.

Oh. In that case, I won't vote, as I have a MacBook, not a MacBook pro.

On the other hand, if you use it for something else, you'd be screwed.

I love it when peole say, "I don't use X, and so nobody else should, either."

Might be nice if they removed it, shifted things around inside, and added 2 more RAM slots. I'm pretty sure I'd have more use for more RAM than anything currently available for the 34 Slot.

That's kind of why I made the pole. I know I don't use it, but I wanted to see if it's used by other people or not.

I do like the SD slot now, but I think a multi-reader would make more sense. I suppose it would be too big though, at least one that could read CF cards.

I use it for a 3-in-1 media card reader primarily - and use it often.

I honestly can't understand this decision. Why not just leave it and stuff it with a media reader from the factory? This way people could have their choice of upgrades. Now it's either SD or you're forced to use one of your two whole USB ports.

Did anyone read the M-F blog today? This is exactly why I wish Apple would license OS X. So sick of them making these kinds of decisions and sacrificing functionality for style.

Agreed 10000%!! :D

Just because some will never use it does not mean others will not. Some people doing Audio need it I am told since some interfaces use 2 FW ports.
