• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

What movie editing software do you use?

I use FinaL Cut Pro, Motion, Shake and Aperture (sound editing) and mine definitely doesn't make those sounds. To be honest, something's wrong if it makes noises on zooming in.

Make sure that all other programs/applications are closed when using "heavy" video editing software like Final Cut. If you are using iMovie, it really shouldn't be making that sound in the slightest.

Regards.

I know that you can do an Apple Hardware Test in Leopard by holding down the 'D' key when starting up. But I'm not sure whether this is available in Tiger. Give it a try!

Regards.

If your HDD is making weird sounds. I would say back up your stuff just to be on the safe side.

You need to have the OS X System Disc 1 inserted too.
