Hi all

I have just bought a Samsung SMX f30, as I tried a friends and was really impressed with it's widescreen and the fact it records in MP4 so I could just watch it straight on my appletv.

Unfortunately, life is never that simple ...

On the camera you have the option to record in 16:9 (widescreen) or standard (4:3), but the files they create are the same dimensions when i check them in quicktime at 720 x 576, which means when i bring them into iMovie HD, which i s set to widescreen project mode, they both occupy the same area, with black lines either side, altho the widescreen version is horizontal squished.

BUT

If i use the crappy MediaShow V4 that comes with the camera (PC Only), the widescreen IS widescreen ...

is the Media Show software simple stretching the video??

The info from quicktime for the files is:

See this video. iMovie HD has two DV import options, regular 4:3 DV and DV Widescreen. I'm not sure about mixing the two in one project. You'll have to experiment on that one.

I would start a new project for the widescreen content to be sure it comes in with its potential quality and without formatting issues.

As far as I know, the DV widscreen format is a hack. You loose quality by using it.

As a side note, this guy has an interesting solution for turning 4:3 into 16:9.
