Star Trek, has anyone seen it yet?

I'm not too much of a Star Trek fan, but the movie just looks so amazing. I can't wait to get around to watching it.

Has anyone seen it yet? Does anyone at least have any plans to see it?

I'm not a Trekie either but I went to go see it with some of my friends. Surprisingly it was pretty good. I never followed Star Trek so it was all pretty new to me, from what I've heard this movie doesn't follow the original anyways.

I saw it and think it was best thus far of all of them (my previous favorite was The Wrath of Khan).

I would like to see it, but I can wait the 2-3 months for the DVD to come out.

Yeah, same. The only times I go out to movies is when I'm invited by a friend. Otherwise, I have Netflix for that. But this is one of those movies that I might consider seeing by myself actually.

I thought it was good. It allows for sequels without following the same time line of the first since OG Spock essentially altered history.

It has a great line up as far as casting goes.

Young Spock – Silar from Heroes
Scotty – Simon Peg from Shaun of the Dead
Checkov – Young actor who plays Charlie Bartlett
Sulu – Harold from Harold and Kumar

I'd wait for the B-R to hit also, but sure wouldn't mind catching it while it's at the iMax here either.

Normally I wait for the DVD. But some films have to be seen the first time on the BIG screen with full audio effects. This is one of them.

I was really pumped up in part because the movie reportedly wasn't very "Star Trek-like" in the sense that the director wasn't a Star Trek fan and reinvigorated the movie with an outsider's take. I used to be a Trek fan, but have gotten grossly disenchanted because, aside from the original show, the characters are so stiff, stuffy, and BORING! I wanted to see a fresh, new take on it all.

In truth, it was more Star Trekish and truer to the "Original Show" and cast than any show or movie featuring the Next Gen cast and onwards. It was very lighthearted, humorous, and the casting was good... everyone portraying their counterparts without being extreme caricatures of the originals. I was especially worried that I would only see Spock as Sylar, but Zachary Quinto did an awesome job. In fact, I felt he pulled off a better job of being "half-human" than Nimoy ever did.

110% pure awesomeness. Better than I could've imagined. What's creepy is Karl Urban. It's like he channeling Deforrest Kelley in character as McCoy.

It was absolutely excellent. The hard core Trekkies won't like it because there is a complete fork in continuity, but it is by far the most enjoyable movie that's been made in the Star Trek franchise. Also, there's a number of shout-outs and easter eggs in the film for both Trek fans and JJ Abrams fans alike.

Also, the visuals and casting were outstanding. Much of the cast are better actors than those that played their characters originally.

It's definitely worthwhile to see in the theaters, if not for the atmosphere, definitely for the audio and special effects.

I saw it last week. It's a decent movie. Worth paying matinee at a theater for. If you've never seen star trek, your still alright. You don't need any backround info for it. Grab a friend or two and go see it.

Finally got a chance to watch it tonight since the movie came out right smack in the middle of finals for me. It was a fantastic movie. The story and the characters were just great. I really enjoyed how much of a womanizer Kirk was :p

Oh yea, that little earthquake that CA just had? Well I was sitting in the middle of the movie and at first all of us thought that the theater had a really fantastic subwoofer before we realized that it was an earthquake. It was pretty cool.

I guess I better go this week and see it then. Sounds great.

Kash, where can I get a copy with the added special effects you got to experience? :D I just read about that quake an hour ago.

Seems like SolCal has been having quite a few earthquakes recently.

At least nothing fell on you, and you didn't have massive panic. I heard it was a pretty big one 5.0 where it originated from and 3.1 magnitude from the after shock.

Where I live I didn't even feel it. But I saw Star Trek I never watched a single episode before but the movie was awesome. It was kinda funny at parts but action all the way through.

That's one thing that bothered me, i kept expecting him to whip around and slice someone's head off :p

I guess i do see Quinto more as Sylar than Spock (even if he did do a decent Spock)

What an experience. I would assume die-hard trekkies did not leave the theater!

I'm not sure that die-hard Trekkies are really going to love this film.

I went to see it with a bunch of friends, one of whom belongs to that group. I had to listen to him whine about continuity gaffs throughout the entire flick, even though I explained to him that this is a completely different universe (i.e. a "fork") and that he should just shut up and enjoy it.

He did, but still had plenty of grumbling about it. Good lord...
