• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

pixelated downconverted footage

Hi, I am new to this forum and have a question. I shot a short film on a Sony F900 camera. I then took my HDCAM master tapes to a post facility, where they were downconverted to DVCAM for my offline. I digitized everything into FCP 6, used cinematools to keep the footage and project at 23.98, and now notice that the reds and blacks tend to blur on the edges and look pixelated. I'm wondering if this is normal because of the downconversion or if I should be concerned. Unfortunately, I am not able to view my HDCAM tapes as I do not have a deck with me. I plan on finishing on HDCAM but wonder if I should be concerned about this. Any advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
