Hello everyone,

i'm using limewire for years and now i've got this problem:

I installed limewire 5 pro. then i started the prog. but it won't open. Everytime i try it says "this prog. needs java software 1.6+". right now i'm using java software 1.5. I tried to find the 1.6 version everywhere. But nothing seems to work. Anyone knows how to help?

My personal opinion....

I have business acquaintences who are in the software and music business. Limewire is such a bad word to them. Limewire users who steal copyrighted digital media are literally taking money away from companies who pay the salaries that are used to feed families. Less money in, less money that goes out.

I think any Limewire questions should be boycotted. If we're going to be honest here, the main reason for using it is to steal music, software, and download porn, amongst other things. I used it in the past on Windows and wondered why I got viruses ALL the time. Now, I'm on a Mac without Limewire using software I paid for....and have no concerns for legal issues.

Then, it hit me. If I was BUYING the software and the music, then I didn't need LimeWire or have concern with RIAA knocking on my door asking for $250,000.

Sorry, buddy. No love here. If you've used it for years, then I would clean off the hard drive and start over with paid software and music and get help for the porn addiction. Contrary to popular belief, there is no such thing as "long-term trial software." It's simply called stealing.

OK, off my soapbox now.

While I agree that most users of Limewire use it for questionable gains, not everything done on Limewire is illegal. You can't make a general blanket statement like that. What you're saying can be equated with me claiming that everyone wears deodorant because everyone should. Well, that's not the case (trust me) just like not every user of Limewire shares or downloads copyrighted material. Presumptions can be dangerous. Also, the OP nowhere mentioned that they were use Limewire for illegal purposes. Again, another presumption but this time not just about all Limewire users but one in particular. Trust me, if illegal gains were the purpose behind this thread and this was made explicit, the thread would have been reported and locked.

You are also presuming that the OP downloads software, music and adult material. So, you are assuming that the OP is a music crazed porn addict who is too cheap to buy software with no rational or legitimate evidence to support your position.

I'm glad you have a conscience but that is no reason to assume that you are the only one. Just because someone goes to a bar doesn't mean they drink. Just because the OP uses Limewire doesn't mean they are engaged in illegal activity. Most importantly though, just because you don't partake in illegal activities online doesn't give you the right to blame others of doing so at the slightest possibility that they are. Truthfully, it sounds like you're trying to inflate your own ego.

Don't get me wrong, I don't condone piracy. That said, I don't presume people use particular software for illegal gains just because they can. I use and promote the use of bittorrent as a means of distributing large files easily amongst a large group of people if this can be done so legally. Have you ever tried to download a Linux distro on release day from the FTP servers? Good luck. Open up a bittorrent client and that distro will be yours in record time. It's practical and legal.

So, don't get up on your soapbox if it's made out of your inflated egotistical belief in moral superiority. Please try to think rationally about all potential uses next time before you decide to make claims about someone you don't know.

Good points here.

We agree with our statements that "most users of Limewire" and "the main reason for using it" communicate the same ideal....a majority.

I find my post to be a rational thought/outcome scenario. No ego intended. Bottomline is they either ARE or AREN'T using it illegally. There isn't a grey area on that.

If the OP is using it legally, then my apologies for the assumptions. Only they know their intent /use of it.
