It's in System Preferences>Universal Access>Seeing tab, of all places. You may also set up display profiles in System Preferences>Displays>Color tab>Calibrate button.

You can press the F14 and F15 buttons for the brightness if that helps at all.

Jessica,

You can also calibrate the color and such. I've found that the calibration wizard very easy to use in non-expert mode, and the color style like 'tv' output is more like what I expect. (there are only two selections available at the first stage of the wizard, and TV isn't selected by default). hope this helps.

Thanks all. This has certainly helped and it is sexy now! Anyone who complains about the screen on the pbook needs to check out the calibration before they gripe. :)
