Even as Steve Jobs celebrates his birthday, Jef Raskin, who first concieved of the Macintosh and gave the project its name, has passed away.

Raskin had worked at Xerox PARC, and brought many of the ideas with him to Apple. It was Raskin who convinved Steve Jobs to go on his famous visit to PARC, where he saw the GUI prototypes Raskin had been telling him about.
