external hard drive has a lock on it.

i dont get why my external hard drive has a lock on it... i put music and video on a pc...but on the mac it showes a lock on it...and it seem not to be hable to write to it. I using a dj software and it wont remember when i edit the files.:Angry:

because the external is formatted as NTFS

OS X can not write to NTFS

If you want an external drive that can be read and written to from both Windows and OS X without any added software, you'll need to format the drive with FAT32

Bob is correct. There is one way to make OSX write to an NTFS drive, a driver called Paragon but that costs $30. FAT32 is the easiest way as long as no SINGLE file is over 4GB in size.
