I just bought a new 24 In IMAC and have a question about the whole mini-dvi to hdmi? I bought an adaptor that stated it was a Mini-DVI to HDMI converter. However when I went to plug the Mini-DVI part into my Mac, the part was much to big to fit into the slot. Are there different sized Mini-DVi's??? I am a bit confused right now...I was then going to run and HDMI cord to my TV to watch some show on there......Thanks for your help.

I made the same mistake with my MacBook Pro. The port on the newer iMacs and MacBooks is a "Mini DisplayPort"... not the same thing as "Mini DVI".
You'll need this adapter plus an HDMI cable.
Be aware that current Macs do not support transmitting audio through the DP at this time... you'll need separate analog audio hookups.
