• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I have a simple question regarding itunes.

If I keep a video on an external harddrive and add it to itunes, then unplug my harddrive, will i be able to play the video every time my external harddrive is plugged back into my computer? i know i probably won't when it's unplugged but what about if i plug it in once in a while and access that video through itunes? will it play?

I believe everything iTunes has in its library is stored in its library space. If true, adding an item to iTunes will increase the size of the library the same amount. IOW, a 2 gig video will make the library 2 gig larger. (Try it to see if that is true.) Because it is stored in the library and its space, it will be available for play regardless of the presence/absence of the ext HD.
