When I receive a pps file from a windows user, sometimes I have a hard time opening it. Sometimes it opens in keynote and sometimes it doesn't. What would be best to use neo office or open office to open pps files? I know both neo office and open office are large downloads, and I have a fairly slow mobile broadband connection to download them, so is there any other options? Thanks for a reply.

If you don't want to download a office suite, Google docs opens pps files.

Have you tried using either OpenOffice/NeoOffice or Google Docs?
