Webcam Chat

Hi just got a MacBook so bear with me please.

I want to have webcam chat with my mum who is on a windows based pc.

Any suggestions welcome, reluctant to download any software without knowing the pro's and cons.

Use iChat. It's uses the Aim network and you already have it. She would just need AIM on her PC.

I ran into the same situation when I switched and if you both are willing to get Skype, it is indeed the best and is compatible with both.

I asked the same question 6 months ago from a friend who has the same mbp as I do and she suggested Skype. Works great, no freezing or stuttering. I did try ichat once with her and the video "froze" after a minute or two so I won't be using ichat again anytime soon.

In case you aren't sure: Skype. ;). Easy download and install, and while AIM/iChat work most of the time and do a decent job, Skype is hassle-free (apart from the download).
