• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I know Apple has the Camcorder support list here but it states that those listed are obviously only the ones tested. I was interested in getting the Sony HDR-XR200V 120GB High Definition Handycam Camcorder, which isn't listed, but I have no way of telling if it isn't listed because they tested it and it wasn't compatible, or if they just never tested it. Does anyone have any experience with this camera on a mac and with iMovie? Oh and I do have the Intel Core Duo Processor like it says you should if shooting in HD..

Thanks!

I believe when you connect the camera to the computer, it show's up as a external drive.. you can then drag the files off. and either convert or import straight into imovie..

someone will be able to give you the exact process.

If you have a mac laptop with imovie, and you are looking to buy it in a place where you can connect and test it i suggest doing so.

For instance, if you are going to buy a camcorder from Bestbuy, and they have that model on display, take your laptop in, and tell them you want to see if the camera is detected correctly and if it will let you import. If they refuse, walk away.

If you don't have a laptop ask if they'll connect it to one of the macs they have on display for the same purpose.

Any place should have no issue with proving than an item works as it should pre-purchase.
