avi to dvd format - Toast Titanium

I recently downloaded Lost the TV Show off of a torrent website. These files are in the .avi file extension. I burned the .avi files using Toast Titanium on a dvd and it did not work on my dvd player. I understand that i have to convert the .avi file to dvd format, but I do not understand how to do that using Toast Titanium.

If someone could give me a step by step process in order to help me, I would greatly appreciate it.

Or if anyone has a better program that I may use (preferably freeware) to help me put these files on a disk.
