Assuming you're referring to a bluetooth mouse, have you attempted to "pair" the mouse to your machine?

If your machine is brand new, you should be able to call Apple support. I've found them to be very helpful for the wireless mouse and keyboard glitches I've had (now I know how to fix them). You should have 90 days of free support, then you can decide whether to buy AppleCare (I did).
