Hi I am having a few problems trying to link up my PC and my MAC as I am trying to share some files.

Now I have looked online and it seems I have to activate in my sharing folder windows sharing in my system preference but i dnt seem to have that.

Also I am able to connect to my bf laptop but some how I cant find my PC even though we are both connected using the same wireless router.

Can anyone help?

Go to System Preferences > Sharing > check File Sharing > Options... > check "Share files and folders using SMB" > check a user name.

That guide is old - it's for Tiger.

Agreed with Vansmith.

And yes, that site is old. Tiger and before was way different in network and sharing settings.

Also what version of Windows is on your Windows machine?

But when I click on the mac computer it says I am not allowed to access it. I am on xp. And when I use the mac going to GO and then connect to server i type in SMB then my computer name or ip address it does not connect.

Is your PC behind a firewall?

That could be causing some problems. Turn it off and test it.

Are you both using the same version of Windows?

(If you haven't, you can turn your firewall back on).

Try the guide here.

Can you try your Windows machine with another Windows system and be sure File Sharing is working? I have seen XP systems with issues that would not network with any other machine no matter what.
