I'm surprised there is no thread on this already.

So who saw it last night? What did you think?

I really enjoyed the movie. It obviously isn't even close to as amazing as the graphic novel is, but it was good. It is unfortunate that the expectations of the movie are so high...there is no way it could live up to them.

I meant to start a thread, slipped my mind though.

I'm going tonight for an IMAX showing. Very excited :D

I bought the graphic novel three weeks ago, meaning to read it slowly to have it done by today. Well, by last Tuesday I was only forty pages in, so I powered through it on Tuesday night. Now that I look back, I should have waited to see the movie first as the graphic novel has sorta ruined the ending for me.

No, you will appreciate it more because you read it first. You will notice a lot of the little things that someone who hasn't read it will probably miss.

Don't worry. They changed the ending for the movie. (Good thing/ bad). It's rated R, so I can't watch it! I will cry now.:( It comes out on DVD in July, though.

Just got back from seeing it. It was a really good movie. I'm glad that I read the graphic novel first as it helped knowing the back story for the characters and the plot, though that's not to say Snyder didn't do a fantastic job adapting it for the big screen. There were several parts of the graphic novel that were completely cut out, others that were compressed, and of course, everybody knows that the ending was changed. The ending was decent, but giant squids are of course better ;P

The acting was pretty good. Rorschach and The Comedian were perfectly cast. Silk Spectre II wasn't that great of a character in the graphic novel, so Malin Ackerman did the best she could, which turned out to be a lot better than expected considering the type of roles she's customarily played. I think the guy for Ozymandias did a decent job, but I didn't really like his costume; the one from the graphic novel was much more in line with the character and his purpose in the story. Finally, I like who was picked for Night Owl II, he portrayed the character well.

On a final note, there is way too much man meat in this movie :(

One more thing, watching this movie in IMAX was SWEET :D

Yeah, it was always just dangling there...it didn't make me uncomfortable, it was just kind of distracting. I'm glad they didn't avoid it or anything, I would have found that more distracting to be honest.

I've read the graphic novel 4 times since 2003, and I just saw it tonight, and this'll put me in the minority, but, I liked the movie better than the book.

I think the ending was more, well, complementary to the rest of the story.

The right parts were cut out, the ending was good, and I was actually awestruck by the film. As I was leaving, I said to my friend "You know, this may be in the running for top ten best movies I've ever seen", and he agreed. (We're both comic nerds, him more into Marvel, and myself more into DC).

I will say, the makeup on Nixon wasn't as good as it could've been, and some of the CG seemed kinda cheap, but overall it was a great movie, with enough action and plot to make me a happy camper.

And there's nothing wrong with the sheer amount of blue dongs in the movie. I found that to be quite amusing.

Also, kinda embarrassed to admit that I was digging the Dylan cover over the end titles.

Then I got home and found out who performed it.

A cold shower ensued.

*shudder* My Chemical Romance.

I found, an MCR song, to be good.

I need psychiatric help.

See, I would think a hot shower would have ensued, if just to get rid of the germs. A cold shower implied that you were aroused by it.

The cold shower was to snap me out of shock.

Wait, MCR did the All Along the Watchtower cover? Regardless, I didn't like it that much. I'm more of a fan of the Bear McCreary cover that he did for season 3 of Battlestar Galactica.

I saw the movie last night, and it certainly was "graphic". One scene seemed to be right out of a porno. It sort of reminded me of the action movies of the 80's that typically had a requisite sex scene somewhere in it. Wasn't a fan at all of all the hanging meat either. Maybe if I read the novel I would understand how a lot of censorship could have been off, but I think it would be worth it not to have to see that.

As far as the actual story, it was just ok overall. IMHO a man with the knowledge and vision of Dr. Manhattan still wouldn't give a rat's behind about humanity because anyone can realize that even though the world will be united for a while in their hate of him, eventually they will grow bored and/or forget and eventually go back to the human condition of self-interest, greed and so on that will once again lead to crime and war.

Also, there were many small things that were just annoying. Like the fact that the world's smartest man had a computer password from a book sitting on his desk. Give me a break. I guess small things like that are necessary to move the story along, but better writing wouldn't make those compromises necessary.
