Installing XP x64

Hey guys, i currently have XP Pro Sp2 32bit installed on Bootcamp, but i would love to be able to utilize my 4 GBs of RAM with XP 64bit. I tried Vista 64bit, but it wasn't compatible with half of my programs. So i was wondering, can i upgrade my existing 32bit version of XP to 64bit, and would the drivers still work? Like i know Apple doesn't have a set of drivers for XP 64bit, but would the 32bit ones work if i upgraded?

If you think you had problems with Vista 64 bit, wait until you use XP 64 bit.

XP 64 bit lacks drivers, it suffers from poor performance, and worst of all, lacks support by most hardware and software providers. And no, 32 bit XP drivers will not work for XP 64 bit.

I would stick with 32 bit for now. The new Windows 7 public preview (32 bit) runs well on an Intel Mac using Boot Camp. Give that a go instead.

Oh wow, i never knew that about Xp 64bit. Have you tried Windows 7?

Lots of folks who regularly post in these forums have installed Win 7 via Boot Camp. Windows 7 installs with Boot Camp because BC thinks it's Vista. Depending on what model Mac you have, you may have to dig a bit for drivers after installing it but generally it works well.

Anyway, you don't want the headache of messing with XP 64 bit.

Yeah, I'd avoid XP x64 at all costs.

I have Vista Ultimate x64 at home (on my Mac Pro) and at work (Dell XPS) and have no problems with it what-so-ever. Best OS I've used to be honest.
