• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Hello all,
I looked thru the previous post but may have missed a similar question. I'm attempting to burn a movie to allow me to play it on my home dvd player. I have some avi and mp4 movies on my mac. My question is, what format should I convert these to in order to burn them on dvd-r disc? I tried using BURN but it doesn't recognize avi, mp4 or quicktime files.

If you have iLife (comes on every Intel Mac) you can use iDVD.

As mentioned, for what you want to do, iDVD is your answer. Apple has some video tutorials.

It is recommended you use the "Save as Disc Image..." instead of "Burn DVD...". That way you can test the result before burning to a DVD. Those AVI files may give you issues.
