You can get the Remote application from the App Store to control iTunes. It works for music but I'm not sure about movies.

Yeah, I use the Remote app, and if you can play movies, videos, and TV shows that are in a playlist. I've just made a playlist with all of my videos from iTunes in it so I can use the Remote app with them. You can go through your entire iTunes library in the same way that you can go through the songs that are on your iPhone/iPod Touch (they have the exact same user interface). And the speed at which it actually works with your computer is pretty fast and amazing as well! The Remote app is free, and I'd highly recommend it!
