Dashboard

Hello,

I heard dashboard was a "resource hog", but i really like the look of it.

I am getting the 2.93ghz. 4gb ram. 17inch MBP. Will be a problem?

If you add a ton of widgets and you notice the rest of your computer feels "slow" or "sluggish", then there's your answer.

Seeing as you have a fast Mac with plenty of RAM, you should be fine though

Ok, cool. I'll only have 7 or 8 widgets

The only problem I've come across with Dashboard is that certain widgets will really get the CPU going, thus the fan will wail even when you aren't accessing it. In my case, it was Radar in Motion.

Otherwise, I haven't found Dashboard to be particularly resource hogging and is otherwise quite useful.

Dashboard is only "on" when you click it in the dock and the program ends when you click out of it, right? It's not an always-on kind of thing.

it is actually, at least for me, but I don't use the dock

if you look in Activity Monitor, you will see the Dashboard client running ... you might have several actually, but they usually don't eat that much, at least in my case, not even a a % of cpu

Dashboard is always running. It's just not always visible.

You're all kind of right: The first time you load dashboard, you'll notice it takes a while until it has loaded all the widgets. Before that first "start up" the widgets won't use any resources.
